Car Rental

In case you want to discover the island on your own or for any other reason, you might decide to get a rental car.
Malta is not only a member state of the EU but also uses the Euro as its currency. Payment by credit card is generally possible and is almost always accepted in supermarkets and restaurants. To be on the safe side, ask in advance and carry a few Euros in cash with you. Some service providers are happy to accept cash payments and may offer discounts in return … not everything is recorded in the books here!
As suggested before, the best choice is renting on Gozo instead of venturing through the traffic on Malta. Keep in mind: left hand traffic is a bit demanding for the first hours!

Even though you are probalby aware of the fact: traffic is left side of the road, dense and the streets are not always in the best of conditions. We suggest to not skip the insurance for car, tires and the underbody. Another thing to watch out for: most companies don’t allow “off road” activities and some places are tough to get to and the roads leading to them might fall into this category.
